Research Cluster 9

Process Monitoring for Assessment of Operating Performance in Complex Systems

Research Cluster 9 is supervised by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Günter Wozny, head of the Department of Process Dynamics and Operations. The aim of this cluster is to design prototypes which serve as support tools for the analysis and evaluation of complex and dynamic processes in the chemical industry.

Development of an Assistance System for integration and optimization of controllers in the process industry

A common problem that we have in the industry is that many controllers are not tuned well. A possible reason for this is that engineers don't have enough support for system identification and controller tuning. Therefore, the main goal of this Ph.D. thesis is to develop a method that supports engineers in system identification and optimization of controller quality. Due to the fact that the developed strategy is based on complex numeric algorithms, the design of the user interface is also challenging.

Usage of key performance indicators to incude uncertain parameters in process monitoring and control

Dipl.-Ing. Sebastian Werk

1. Betreuer: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Günter Wozny
2. Betreuer: Prof. Dr. phil. Dietrich Manzey

The prediction of dynamic processes is often not transparent, even for experienced operators, especially if uncertain parameters have a significant impact on the process. To increase the operators performance, key performance indicators based on Chance-Constrained-Optimization techniques are developed within this Ph.D. thesis. Core concepts were presented at the offsite meeting 2012 and part of an article for the ESCAPE 22.
